Transaction

This screen shows a single payment in full: who paid, how it was processed, its status, and its activity and history. It's the hub from which you refund or capture the payment.

Where to find it

Open a transaction from the transaction search results, or follow a link from an account, contract, or payment method.

Things to note

  • Refund, Capture and Void appear only when the transaction is in a state that allows them, only if you have payment permission, and only when the feature is enabled for your organisation.
  • Undo Refund appears only on a refund that was recorded offline, never on one that went through a gateway. An offline refund is only a record that the customer was refunded by some other route, so undoing it removes that record — it does not move money and does not take anything back from the customer. Once undone, the original payment counts as unrefunded again, so if the money really should go back you can then use Refund to send a genuine refund through the gateway. If the payment has since been refunded by something else, the undo is refused and nothing changes.
  • Opening a one-off contract from a transaction shows it in this checkout context.
  • The arrows above the transaction (or the left and right keys) step through the other transactions from your last search.
  • For payment methods that need advance notice (such as BACS, SEPA and ACH), the payment is sent to the gateway before the date it is meant to hit. When that happens the header shows a Created / Target / Resolved date line: Target is the intended payment date, explaining why the transaction was created earlier than it settled. Other payment methods do not show this line.
