BNPL messaging

BNPL Messaging shows buy now, pay later messages, such as “as low as $45/mo”, from the merchant’s connected providers on your product and basket pages. It tells customers before they reach checkout that they can spread the cost. If the merchant has no connected provider that supports it, nothing is rendered, so you can add it to your pages without checking first.

BNPL Messaging is delivered by shuttle.js 1.3 or later. The script and the API call it a credit message (Shuttle.credit_message, and the CREDIT_MESSAGE feature on a gateway).

The message is the provider’s advertising, nothing more: the customer applies for and pays with the provider through Checkout.

Payment provider Message Notes
Affirm Affirm’s “as low as” monthly payment message Affirm works in USD.
PayPal Commerce PayPal’s Pay Later message PayPal decides which message to show for the amount and currency.
PayTomorrow “or as low as” a monthly payment, with PayTomorrow’s logo and a More info link that opens PayTomorrow’s payment estimator Only when the price estimator is set up on the merchant’s PayTomorrow connection (Public ID, Max Term and Store Display Name). See Connecting PayTomorrow.
Sandbox A sample instalment message For testing your integration without a live provider.

When the merchant has more than one of these connected, each provider’s message appears in your element, one under another.

  • Product pages: a message for the price of the product. A page listing several products can carry one message per product.
  • Basket and checkout pages: a message for the basket total.

Each message is worked out from an amount, so a general banner with no price, on a home page for example, is not supported.

Load shuttle.js with your shared key and the merchant’s instance key, add an element for each message, and call Shuttle.credit_message. Each step, and the options, are set out in the BNPL Messaging integration guide.
