A charge is a single scheduled amount on a contract.

### What you see

- The [Account header](/platforms/user-guides/admin-sections-accounts/#account-header), the [Contract header](/platforms/user-guides/admin-sections-contracts/#contract-header) and the [Charge details](/platforms/user-guides/admin-sections-contracts/#charge-details): the amount, due date, status and what has been paid or written off.

### What you can do

| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Edit charge** | Change the charge's amount or due date. Available while the charge is still open — not paid, cancelled, written off, or waiting on the result of a payment attempt. Rules: [Amend a charge](/platforms/user-guides/rules-charge-amend/). |
| **Schedule now** (on the edit screen) | Instead of picking a date, have the charge collected straight away. Rules: [Amend a charge](/platforms/user-guides/rules-charge-amend/). |
| **Void charge** | Write off an overdue, unpaid charge, confirmed in a pop-up. Rules: [Write off a charge](/platforms/user-guides/rules-charge-void/). |

Editing a charge lets you change its amount and due date, then save back to the charge.

### Things to note

- A charge that has been paid, cancelled or written off can't be edited or voided, and neither can one that is waiting on the result of a payment attempt. The status shown against the charge tells you which of these applies.
- **Edit** and **Void** depend on the charge's status and on features being enabled for your organisation.
