# Moneris test cards

> Test card numbers and other details for Moneris' sandbox, and the result each one gives.

Use these details to try payments in a Moneris sandbox (test) account. They work only in the sandbox: never use them in live, and never put real card or bank details into a sandbox.

Moneris' test environment approves or declines a payment mostly by the cents part of the amount: for example, `1.00` or `9.00` is approved because the cents are `.00`. Moneris says test payments must not be over `11.00`, although its simulator pages give some results for larger amounts, shown below. Other merchants share the test environment, so you may see payments you didn't make.

:::note[Where these details come from]
These are Moneris' test details, not ours. They were copied from Moneris' [Testing a Solution](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Testing%20a%20Solution), [Penny Value Simulator](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Penny%20Value%20Simulator), [CVD & AVS (E-Fraud) Simulator](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/E-Fraud%20Simulator) and [Testing 3-D Secure (MPI) Solutions](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Testing%203D%20Solutions) pages on 19 October 2026, and were correct on that date as far as those pages show. Moneris can change or withdraw them at any time, and we can't confirm that they work. Check Moneris' pages for the current details, and ask Moneris if one doesn't behave as described.

Rows marked "Used in our own tests" aren't on Moneris' pages: they are values that our own tests use with Moneris' test environment, as of 19 October 2026.

## How to choose a test result

- For most cards, the cents of the amount set the result; a few Visa cards always decline ([Testing a Solution](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Testing%20a%20Solution), [Penny Value Simulator](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Penny%20Value%20Simulator)). Enter the amount in dollars and cents as usual, for example `1.00` to approve or `1.05` to decline a Visa payment, and keep it at `11.00` or less. We send Moneris the amount exactly as entered.
- For 3D Secure, switch on **Enable 3D Secure** in the Moneris connection settings here ([Connecting Moneris](/payment-providers/moneris-connect/)), use the cards Moneris lists for use after 11 February 2026 ([Testing 3-D Secure (MPI) Solutions](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Testing%203D%20Solutions)), and pay online through the checkout: we don't use 3D Secure for phone (MOTO) or recurring payments. The amount still sets the result after authentication, so use one ending in `.00`.
- We go ahead with a payment only when 3D Secure authentication succeeds, with or without a challenge. We decline every other 3D Secure result, including "attempted" and "unavailable", with "3DS Authentication failed", without asking Moneris to authorise the payment.
- The address (AVS) and CVC results can't be tried here. Moneris' simulator needs its shared test store `store5` ([CVD & AVS (E-Fraud) Simulator](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/E-Fraud%20Simulator)), and we don't send the address to Moneris for an AVS check or act on the AVS or CVC result. **Requires address (AVS)** in the connection settings only makes the checkout ask for the billing address. Here, the simulator amounts show only whether the payment is approved or declined.

## Cards

Moneris' page doesn't set an expiry date or CVC for these cards.

### Successful payments

Use an amount ending in `.00`, for example `1.00`.

| Card | Number | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Visa | `4242 4242 4242 4242` | |
| Visa | `4530 9100 0001 2345` | Used in our own tests, including saving the card and paying with it later |
| Mastercard | `5454 5454 5454 5454` | |
| Mastercard | `2222 4000 4124 0011` | 2-series number |

### Declines and errors

For Visa, the cents of any amount from `0.00` to `9.99` set the result; for Mastercard, amounts from `0.00` to `9.00`. American Express needs the exact amount shown. Moneris says the result for an amount it doesn't list is unpredictable, and lists more amounts on its [Penny Value Simulator](https://legacy-developer.moneris.com/More/Testing/Penny%20Value%20Simulator) page.

| Number or trigger | Result |
| --- | --- |
| Visa, amount ending `.05` (for example `1.05`) | Declined |

### Address and CVC checks

Moneris says the address (AVS) and CVC simulator works only with its shared test store `store5`, with Visa card `4242 4242 4242 4242` (or American Express card `3739 531923 51004`), and with an amount that begins with `10`.

Here, only the approved or declined result applies: we don't send the address for an AVS check and don't act on the AVS or CVC result.

| Value | Result |
| --- | --- |
| Amount `10.13` | Approved. AVS Y, CVC M (match) |
| Amount `10.10` | Approved. AVS A, CVC M |
| Amount `10.18` | Approved. AVS Z, CVC M |
| Amount `10.17` | Approved. AVS N (no match), CVC M |
| Amount `10.24` | Declined. AVS Y, CVC M |
| Amount `10.32` | Approved. AVS Y, CVC N (no match) |
| Amount `10.35` | Declined. AVS Y, CVC N |
| Amount `10.30` | Approved. AVS Y, CVC P (not processed) |
