# Kount test cards

> How to get test details for Kount's sandbox.

Kount's test details come from Kount itself. Use them only in a sandbox (test) account: never in live, and never put real card or bank details into a sandbox.

Kount screens payments rather than taking them, so the payment itself is made with your payment provider's sandbox and its test cards. Kount's test environment accepts test card numbers, which fail in live.

:::note[Where these details come from]
These are Kount's test arrangements, not ours. They were taken from Kount's [Kount Environments Overview](https://developer.kount.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411882736916-Kount-Environments-Overview) page on 19 October 2026, and were correct on that date as far as that page shows. Kount can change them at any time, and we can't confirm that they work. Check Kount's page for the current details, and ask Kount if something doesn't behave as described.

## How to choose a test result

- The rules in your Kount test account decide whether Kount approves a payment, sends it to review or declines it, so set up a rule for each result you want to try ([Kount Environments Overview](https://developer.kount.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411882736916-Kount-Environments-Overview)).
- In the Kount connection here, enter the test environment's **RIS URL** from Kount's boarding document, and switch Kount on for card, SEPA or ACH payments in the checkout settings (see [Connecting Kount](/payment-providers/kount-connect/)). The payment itself still goes to your payment provider's sandbox, so use that provider's test cards.
- **Rule Action** in the connection sets what we do with Kount's answer. **Default** stops a declined payment and holds one that Kount sends to review. **Stop On Escalate / Review** also stops payments sent to review. **Always Allow Payment** never stops a payment.
- **Check Type** sets when Kount checks the payment. **Pre-Authorization** checks it before it goes to your payment provider, so a decline stops it. **Post-Authorization** checks it after your payment provider has processed it.
- Rules on the customer's details see what we send from the checkout: the email address (or `noemail@kount.com` if there isn't one), and the name with everything except letters and spaces removed. A rule on a name with digits or punctuation can't match here.

## Getting test details

Kount sends each merchant a boarding document with the details for its test environment. Whether Kount approves a payment, sends it to review or declines it depends on the rules set up in your Kount account, so set up rules in your Kount test account to try each result. Rules, users and API keys created in the test environment have to be set up again for live.

Our own tests with Kount's test environment send the Visa test card `4111 1111 1111 1111`, and expect Kount to approve the payment when no rule matches.

Some Kount features are limited or missing in the test environment, including scoring, order linking, device location, and address and phone validation.
